The media industry is dominated by men. 78% of news articles are written by men and 84% of morning radio presenters are also male. Men also dominate shows such as countdown with 72% of the guests on the show being male.
These figures could be because:
- Women quit their jobs when they have a baby
- Older women are kicked off the show, as when they reach a certain age, the media business believe they are passed their best unlike men when they are respected when they reach an older age
I will make sure I add a woman in my magazine to make sure I don't discriminate the women in my audience.
